Informuta’s mission is to revolutionize infectious disease detection and enable precision medicine for infections.
We do this through artificial intelligence/machine learning (AI/ML)-powered analytics of DNA, namely next-generation sequencing (NGS), data.
Our novel, proprietary technology allows us to leverage DNA sequencing to predict if bacteria will respond to different antibiotics or develop resistance to them over time.
Our vision is to address the global health crisis of antibiotic resistance and save lives by learning to better use and therefore conserve our current market-approved antibiotics.
Kalen pioneered Informuta’s technology that predicts future resistance acquisition during her PhD work at Tulane University School of Medicine. Driven by a lifelong passion for scientific discovery, Kalen's research career began in high school and continued through her Biochemistry and Anthropology degrees at the University of Florida, where she did her honors thesis and graduated Magna Cum Laude. During her PhD at Tulane, Kalen began diving into the world of entrepreneurship, and she is dedicated to bringing her scientific innovations to market to improve patient outcomes. Kalen has actively honed her business acumen through programs like the NSF I-Corps, Tulane Innovation Institute Mentorship Program, and the Equalize Program, blending rigorous scientific methodology with strategic business insights to lead Informuta effectively.

Leo is a recent PhD graduate from Tulane’s Bioinnovation Program, where his research focused on mutagenesis and tumorigenesis in human cancers, particularly those related to POLE and BRCA1 mutations. From a young age, Leo was captivated by science and technology, with a lifelong aspiration to create innovations that significantly improve lives. His academic journey led him from a B.S. in Biochemistry at Louisiana State University to Tulane, where he was pivotal in applying next-generation DNA sequencing to tumor genomes. Leo’s knack for bioinformatics emerged when he taught himself coding to tackle data analysis challenges, subsequently mastering computational, statistical, and machine learning methods to decode genomic data and engineer software for reproducibility and communication. His expertise extends to medical device regulation, having interned at the FDA, ensuring a well-rounded leadership in transitioning scientific discoveries to market-ready technologies.
